March 3, 2008 – Newsletter to all members of:

– the best little art group in town!

The purpose of this newsletter is to keep everyone up-to-date. To save the cost of postage the newsletters will be emailed where possible and mailed to members without email.

1.  Getting to the meeting:

Do you know a member who lives near you? If so, why not check if you could car pool or drive a member who does not have a car? If you are a member without a car and need a ride please check our mailing list as one of the new members may live in your area.

2.  At our meetings:

Try to come early by 7:00pm to meet and chat as the Demonstration starts at 7:15pm when the demonstrator is set up.

Please feel free to bring information about art shows that you are participating in, new-found art books, or art supplies that you would like to show the group. Mention this to the President or Vice President, and you can make an announcement during the Announcement time.

Our room is small so during the demonstration, could you try to keep chat to a minimum, I know it is hard as artists are very spontaneous folk! BUT if you have any questions we really encourage you to ask them. If you need to meet with another member could you maybe do so in the corridor or keep it to the break time.

Break time – if you feel so inclined – homemade cakes and cookies or healthy food is always VERY appreciated by the group – we love good food! If it is your cultural time feel free to bring us samples of your goodies.

Could you remember before you leave the meeting to stack your chair in the corner of the room, the members who arrive early set them out for you.

3. Latest news about Membership:

John Nussbaum has volunteered to take over the duties as Membership Director as our previous Membership Director - Cathy Bast has moved to the Windsor area.

The membership form will be available at the next meeting March 19th. If you need one mailed to you please contact: John.

Our association has a maximum of 50 members so please return the membership application at the Annual General Meeting or mail it to John before May 21st. Please let us know right away if you do not intend to renew your membership so John can offer a place to another artist on our waiting list. So, if we do not hear by May 21st from you sadly you will be replaced!

4.  About our Executive:

Description about duties on the Executive:

New members of the group will be receiving a phone call from one of the Executive to ask you to consider being a member of the Executive:

There are 3 executive positions available for the 2008-2010 years:

Vice President;

Secretary;  and,

Newsletter Editor

The executive meets once a month on the first Monday of each month from October to May at 7:30pm for about 1 hour in room 216 upstairs at Edithvale CC. The executive meets to plan the coming year’s shows and events. It is a nice way to get to know members of the executive and being on the executive would give you a great feeling of pride to help make our group strong and successful.

Don’t worry even if you have just joined this year we welcome new members to the executive to help develop the group to new levels. I became President in the same year as I joined NYVA as we needed to keep the group going and then we did not have as many new members as we do now. The Executive is very encouraged with the level of excitement from the artists who have joined NYVA this year.

Spring and Summer happenings:

AGO is running life drawing session at the gallery school
Spring: April 1 to June 16, 2008  Fridays 10am-1pm @ Gallery School -
60 McCaul St. Toronto -
http://www.ago.net/education/courses/drawing-dropin

Would you like to get together for a Painting Circle during the summer?

Could you send me an email or call.

To have our painting circle - each person brings a canvas and an easel + painting gear + goodies for pot luck lunch, I will supply tea and coffee – after lunch we each paint on a canvas for 10 minutes then move to the next canvas at the end of an hour we decide how abstract the paintings have become!

If you are a pure watercolourist you are also invited.

To have an oil painting circle we need at least 4 members and to have an acrylic circle we also need at least 4 members so we will see how many are interested!

If you like this idea of a painting circle we could meet the 3rd Wednesday in July and August maybe for Plein Air session at Scarborough Bluffs or Phyllis Rawlinson Park at 19th Ave. & Leslie Street – we can discuss this on June 18th.

Sheila will be away on holiday during May so if you have any questions ask me the next meeting.
