Joan Metcalfe

Joan’s medium is acrylic, pastel, charcoal, conte and pigment ink.  Her works reveal her love of the Arts, particularly dance.  Some pieces have been described as having a “Degas-like” quality.  Her other loves, children, animals and nature, are often exhibited in combination on large canvas, as a stand-alone statement.  Of particular note is a strong appreciation of the beauty of Ethnic diversity.

Joan received her professional training in a combined Psychology and Fine Arts Degree from York University.  Here, she excelled, ranking in the top 5% among all Fine Arts students.

To build on her Psychology training, Joan has undertaken course work at the Graduate level, in Statistics and Psychometric Assessments.

On a personal level, Joan mentored under the late, Bella Kovarsky, Founder of The Bayview School of Ballet.  She both trained, and performed, with the School for over eighteen years.  Joan is also an accomplished Pianist and Piano Teacher, well known in the Toronto area.
