Shadows
conte, 2007

Born in Northern Ireland, I have always had a great
interest in colour and texture and have spent many
years working on tapestries and weavings. After a trip to California in 2003 I
was inspired to expand my
journey in art into the field of painting in oils and
watercolour.
Although my primary focus is on Irish coastal scenes, I also am experimenting
with subjects such as still life studies, tributes to Van Gogh, coastal scenes
of Italy and wind/movement abstractions.
The old country's love of crafts allowed me to
feel
free to express myself in fabric and it is a natural
growth for me to grow into painting.

Painting scenes
of Northern Ireland just reminds me of my childhood
and chilly days watching the most lovely coast in the
world. The Big Sur in California reminded me of this
scenery and the feelings grew that stimulated me to
paint again. This growth has led me into a group of
artists called North York Visual Artists, a group of
50 artists that share a love for art.
As President of the group I have had the chance to meet other artists and
promote our group. This has been an awe-inspiring experience for me.
